Baggrund

Klimaændringerne, der (formentligt / hovedsageligt) skyldes global forurening med CO2, er et megastort problem, der kalder på mange fantasifulde løsninger.
I det følgende fremsættes et løsnings-forslag, der måske kan være en realistisk løsning.

Lidt teknisk

  • Jordens temperatur afhænger af en delikat balanse mellem indstråling fra solen.
    Og den anden vej (langbølget) udstråling til verdensrummet.
    (Kold varmestråling)
  • Selv meget små ændringer i disse to parametre vil have stor indflydelse på klimaet.
  • Hvid marmor har lille indstråling og stor udstråling.
    Gammelt galvaniseret jern (bølgeblik): Lige omvendt.
  • Drivhusgasser (CO2) hæmmer udstrålingen.
  • Is på havet og i Grønland er overvejende hvid som hvid marmor.
    Medens havet er sort som galvaniseret jern.
    Dette resulterer i en farlig selv-forstærkende effekt.
  • Den Lille Istid og var (måske) udløst af et stort vulkanudbrud på Tambora i Indonesia 1815
  • Vulkanudbrud i Island hævdes at være medvirkende årsag til den Franske Revolution.

Et par løsningsforslag

  • Mal vejene hvide.
  • Sprøjt havvand op og få nogle hvide skyer.
  • Og aldeles urealistisk:
    Træk CO2 ud af atmosfæren – meget – et par milliarder ton.

Klima-balloner

For at foregå misforståelser vil jeg allerede her fremhæve at jeg ikke har forudsætninger til at lave en kvantitativ vurdering af det jeg foreslår.
Dog vil jeg fremhæve at selv en meget dyr løsning vil være berettiget hvis den kan afhjælpe et megastort problem.

MEN ALTSÅ:

Brintfyldte balloner der skal:
– – – Flyve uden styring i højder over max flyvehøjde.
– – – Hvis muligt mest i baner tæt ved ækvator.
– – – Være hvide (på den øverste halvdel.)
– – – Være så billige som muligt.

– – – Være tætte for det meget lille brintmolekyle.
– – – Kunne klare det hårde klima (stråling).
– – – Have rimelig lang levetid.
Selv en “mikro-meteor” vil slå hul og lukke gassen ud – langsomt.

Hvis det skønnes nødvendigt: En radiostyret “selvmordsmekanisme”.
Der tales om at vi er på vej mod en ny “Lille Istid”.

Forslagene vrimler frem som paddehatte i skoven.

Og nu (2019) Et uhyre ambitiøst projekt, der skal hente CO2 direkte fra luften og opbevare det i flydende form – endog omdanne til flydende brændsel.
Desværre er der intet om energiforbrug og det hele virker som en ”smart aprilsnar”.

”Ja, men ikke dyrere end at flyve til Mars.”

Politiken har Søndag 2020 feb. 16 en længere artikel hvor det nævnes at man kan sætte solspejle op.
Det baserer sig på interview med den britiske forsker James Lovelock.
Jeg citerer:
” – – En solskærm nogle få hundrede kilometer i diameter anbragt i et kredsløb mellem jorden og solen kunne fuldstændigt stoppe for den globale opvarmning.”

Jeg formoder der henvises til Lagrange Punkt L1, der er omkring 1,5 millioner fra jorden eller omkring 1 % af afstanden til solen.
Desværre er dette Lagrange Punkt i en ustabil ligevægt og vil kræve periodiske småjusteringer.
(Omtrent som hvis man parkerer en bil, uden bremser, på toppen af en bakke.)
Alternativt kan det forstås som et mere lokalt kredsløb hvor det halvdelen af tiden vil være på natsiden.
Sådan et kredsløb bør være overvejende ækvatorialt.

Hvis en sådan solskærm (få hundrede kilometer i diameter) skulle erstattes af klima-balloner fx ti meter i diameter vil det kræve op imod 500 millioner klima-balloner, hver med en overflade på omtrent 500 m^2
Det har været svært for mig at holde styr på de mange store tal.
Derfor beder jeg eventuelle læsere om rettelser.
Og naturligvis helst et overslag over hvad det vil koste.

James Lovelock bliver spurgt om det vil blive dyrt og svarer:
”Ja, men ikke dyrere end at flyve til Mars.”

Modsat de fleste, der omtaler klima og løsninger, nævner James Lovelock atomkraft som en del af løsningen.

Lidt sure bemærkninger.

  • Selv nok så megen sol og vind vil aldrig kunne dække mere en lille brøkdel af verdens behov for energi.
  • Selv om man “i tide” – allerede for 35 år siden – var gået hårdt ind for atomkraft. Ja, så ville vi stadigvæk komme i problemer.
    Men intet i sammenligning med det vi nu har rodet os ind i.
  • Forslaget vil ikke hjælpe på forsuringen af oceanet.
    Men det hævdes, og begrundes, at mere CO2 i atmosfæren vil fremme både landbrug og tilvækst i skove.
  • For mig virker det som aldeles uansvarligt at man ‘sådan bare’ forbyder havbefrugtning, der måske er den eneste realistiske metode til at trække CO2 ud af atmosfæren.
    Måske også øge fiskebestanden.
  • Naturligvis
    Med god grund fremhæves at det vil være uansvarligt at gøre noget der måske kan have negative konsekvenser for andre fx i Bangladesh.
    MEN
    “Vi” i den industrialiserede og rige part af verden har allerede påført andre lande klimaskader – Helt uden at blive draget til ansvar.
  • Det angives at
    Mere end to millioner mennesker i løbet af året er er blevet drevet på flugt på grund af naturkatastrofer forbundet til klimaforandringer.
  • OG
    Jeg tænker næsten militært og vil hævde at en lille risiko – for nogle få – opvejes af forventede store goder – for de mange.

Man vil ikke

Hverken Store Spejle eller Klimaballoner og slet ikke Atomkraft.
Så er der ingen vej udenom

Background

Usually it is agreed that climate change is mostly due to global pollution with CO2.
It is a huge problem that calls for many imaginative solutions.
The following is a proposal that may be a realistic solution.

A bit technical

  • The earth’s temperature depends on a delicate balance between radiation from the sun.
    And the other way (long-wave) radiation back into space.
    (Sometimes called cold heat radiation.)
  • Even very small changes in these two parameters will have a major impact on the climate.
  • White marble has little absorption of sunligt and great radiance back into space.
    Old galvanized iron (corrugated iron): Just the other way around.
  • Greenhouse gases (CO2) inhibit the emission.
  • Ice at sea and in Greenland is predominantly white as white marble.
    While the sea is black as galvanized iron.
    This results in a dangerous self-reinforcing effect.
  • The Little Ice Age was (perhaps) triggered by a large volcanic eruption at Tambora in Indonesia in 1815
  • Volcanic eruptions in Iceland are claimed to be a contributing factor to the French Revolution.

A few solutions

  • Paint the roads white.
  • Spray up seawater and get some white clouds.
  • And totally unrealistic:
    Extract CO2 from the atmosphere – quite a lot – a few billion tons.

Climate-balloons

To avoid misunderstandings, I have to point out that I do not have the prerequisites to make a quantitative assessment of what I am proposing.
However, I would like to stress that even a very expensive solution will be justified if it can solve a huge problem.

OK

Hydrogen filled balloons
black – Flying without control at altitudes above maximum flight altitude.
black – Be white (on the upper half.)
black – Be as cheap as possible.
BUT
black – Be able to contain the very small hydrogen molecule.
black – Be able to cope with the harsh climate (radiation).
black – Have a reasonably long life.

Even a “micro-meteor” will punch a hole and let the gas escape – slowly.
AND
If deemed necessary: A radio-controlled “suicide mechanism”.

Proposals come forward like mushrooms in the forest.

Some almost negative remarks.

  • Even a lot of energy from sun and from wind will never be able to cover more than a small fraction of the world’s needs for energy.
  • Even if we “in time” – some 35 years ago – had gone hard in for nuclear power, we would still be in trouble.
    But nothing compared to what we have now messed us up into.
  • The proposal will not help with the acidification of the ocean.
    But it is argued and justified that more CO2 in the atmosphere will promote both agriculture and growth in the forests.
  • To me, it seems totally irresponsible that we have just banned fertilization of the ocean.
    In my opinion it will perhaps be the only realistic method of extracting CO2 from the atmosphere.
    Maybe also increase the fish stock.
  • Of course
    For good reason it is emphasized that it will be irresponsible to do something that may have negative consequences for others eg in Bangladesh.
    BUT
    “We” in the industrialized and rich part of the world have already caused climate damage in other countries – without being held accountable.
  • It is stated that
    More than two million people have been displaced during the year due to natural disasters linked to climate change.
  • AND
    I think almost militarily and would argue that a small risk – for a few.
    It will be outweighed by expected great benefits – for the many.

Chernobyl: A tourist guide to the death zone.
45000 people used to live here before the catastrophe. They were evacuated in less than 2 hours. Now this is a ghost town:

20 years after Chernobyl – The ongoing health effects -:

Here you can see a picture from the Otto-Hug thyroid clinic in Gomel. Until 2002, 70.000 patients received extensive thyroid treatment at this clinic alone. For many children and adolescents, this means the removal of their thyroid glands and the lifelong dependence on medication and medical supervision.

Thyroid cancer can in fact be treated in most cases, but only under Western medical standards, which cannot be taken for granted in the region. In many cases, the only hope lies with private donations from the West. Nobody cares for the mental effects of cancer on the affected children.

Thyroid cancer is a very rare form of cancer – under normal circumstances it constitutes less than one percent of all cancer forms. That’s also why this increase is so remarkable.

The cancer rates increase with the rate of contamination in the soil: In the most heavily affected region of Belarus, in Gomel, the rate rose up to 55.9 percent. One can also observe a doubling of the rate of breast cancer in regions with notably high Cesium contamination. On average, women developed breast cancer 15 years earlier than usual – a similar phenomenon as with thyroid cancer.

The risk of leukemia in children in the affected regions is also three times higher than usual.

But the health consequences are not restricted to the Chernobyl region. Surveys in several European countries showed a significant increase in infant mortality in the year 1987 – probably as a result of a “Cesium-effect” – and in the beginning of the 1990s probably as a result of a “Strontium-effect”. It would take too much time to go into detail on these effects at this point. For the record, studies come to the conclusion that fatalities under infants in Europe related to Chernobyl are in the magnitude of 5,000. Because of different reasons, the actual effects could be much higher.

Numerous studies also document a significant increase in malformations in many European countries. According to a German survey, 1,000 to 3,000 additional cases of malformation were registered in the contaminated region of Bavaria alone. IPPNW scientists estimate a Europe-wide number of malformations of at least 10,000.

Children are also strongly affected. In 1996 in Ukraine, 70 percent of the children of afflicted parents were officially registered as sick. In comparison: in 1987, the figure was 20 percent. Children in the region of Gomel in Belarus are also very sick. From 100,000 children, 83,000 suffer from respiratory diseases, 7,000 from diseases of the nervous system and sensory organs, 7,000 from skin diseases and subcutaneous adipose tissue diseases, and 5.500 from diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. In total, the number of infant illnesses diagnosed for the first time rose by a factor of thirteen.

These are the results:

Until today, several hundred thousand liquidators have become sick.

Several ten thousand liquidators have died as a result of radiation exposure.

In total, there must be far more than of 10,000 cases.

In the future, more than 50,000 children will suffer from thyroid cancer.

These are very conservative estimates. The Russian Environmental Ministry states that the number of Chernobyl-induced cases of diseases amounted to 1,3 million persons before the beginning of the 1990s.
Until today, 10,000 cases of thyroid cancer have occurred in Belarus alone.

Does this also pertain to infants? The neurosurgeons Orlov and Shaversky from Kiev report a series of 188 brain tumors in children under the age of three. This represents an increase by a factor of 5.8 since Chernobyl and can certainly not be attributed to bad lifestyle or poor nutrition. Children which were breast fed were affected in particular. This study was ignored by the IAEA and WHO.

Just as they did with other, more up to date and unquestionable pieces of research. The IAEA/WHO study relies almost exclusively on studies from 1990 to 1998. Newer, more alarming studies were completely disregarded.

But there is further criticism of the IAEA/WHO study:

Several hundred thousand people were simply overlooked: Merely 200,000 of the 600,000 to 860,000 of the liquidators were considered in the surveys.

In the study, non-cancer afflictions were left out of the computation base for the fatality figures.

Of the 9,000 cases of cancer deaths forecast in the study, the IAEA only mentioned 4,000 in its abridged report. This means that 5,000 fatalities were simply left out of the report presented to the press and the public.

This lecture actively resists being taken in by these arguments. The Chernobyl case can not and must not be closed. Chernobyl began to kill 20 years ago – and has been killing ever since – slowly and unobtrusively. It’s an accident without an end. Nobody knows exactly what burdens will befall the grandchildren and great-grandchildren of the victims. A technology which has such consequences is irresponsible. Taking into account a study of the German Society for Reactor Security, the risk of a nuclear meltdown in the EU in the next 40 years lies at 16 percent.

Disease/health damage is to be expected as a result of additional exposure to radiation because of Chernobyl

.a. Cancer. Nevertheless, it should be noted that the latency period for many types of cancer is 25 – 30 years. At present we are only just seeing cases of thyroid cancers, breast cancers and brain tumours In the population. But liquidators have also developed cancer in numerous other organs: the prostate gland, stomach, cancer of the blood, thyroid cancer

.b. Genetic changes: malformations, stillbirths, the lack of children

.c. Non-cancerous diseases. Many organ systems could be affected; brain disorders; accelerated aging process; psychological disorders

Despite this, the ICRP continues to give a dose limit of 100 mSv for teratogenic damage. This claim has been invalidated by numerous studies.

The lower the radiation level, the longer the latency period before the outbreak of cancer (established as early as 2000 by Pierce and Preston in the context of the RERF studies).

It was found that the incidence of non-cancerous disease had increased; mainly cardiovascular and stomach diseases, and cases of neurological-psychiatric illness were found to be a somatic effect of low-level radiation. The latter was observed mainly during research on liquidators and their children.

You only have to listen in to any randomly chosen snippet of a Theresa May speech or interview and you will quickly realize that connection to reality is not a prerequisite for becoming prime minister.

Journalist: “If we leave the EU without a deal, doesn’t there have to be a hard border in Ireland?”
May: “We’ve been very clear that we do not want to see a hard border between Northern Ireland and Ireland.”
Journalist: “But if we leave without a deal, that does mean a hard border, doesn’t it?”
May: “We are working to make sure that we leave with a good deal.”
Journalist: “But if we leave without a deal, there will be a border in Ireland, won’t there?”
May: “If we leave with no deal, we as the UK government are still committed to doing everything we can to ensure there is no hard border between Northern Ireland and Ireland.”
Journalist: “But you’ll inevitably fail, because according to World Trade Organization rules, there has to be a border. Shouldn’t you level with people and explain that?”
May: “As the UK government, we remain committed to doing everything we can to ensure no hard border between Northern Ireland and Ireland.”

And on and on. The disadvantage of being intelligent is that it hurts to watch someone act dumb. Simplemindedness protects against this pain, which is why in politics, it is often better to be dumb than intelligent.

Der var engang et kongerige, der godt nok havde en dronning.
Alle de fine mænd og kvinder i landet tænkte kun på et:
”Vi skal være verdens bedste land med forureningsfri energi”.

Nogle ihærdige mennesker, og efterhånden også andre forstod hvorledes de havde fundet frem til det helt rigtige, de blev ved med at forklare at hvis man bare – – – – –
Ja så ville alt blive grønt og godt.

Disse dygtige profeter, de lukkede sig inde som en sluttet skare og skrev mange lange forklaringer, med mange tal, om deres drømmesyn sammen med fine hensigtserklæringer og flot illustrerede hjemmesider.
Og alle, der ikke kunne forstå disse geniale tanker, de var ikke egnede til at føre sig frem i den offentlige debat.

Naturligvis. Sådanne drømmesyn er ikke gratis.
De mange skiftende regeringer, de ville jo ikke stå frem som uegnede til deres høje embede, så de støttede med store bidrag, som gik til mange glorværdige projekter.

Nu en dag, det var vist kort efter nytår, skulle en ny stor handlingsplan fremlægges, og derfor var alle de kloge mennesker mødt frem for at vise hvordan de forstod det hele og hvordan alt snart skulle blive Åh så godt, så godt, så godt.
Disse mange mennesker klappede og råbte Hurra Hurra. For det skal man jo gøre.

Indtil en gammel afdanket ingeniør, der måtte støtte sig til sine stokke, spurgte: ”Hvad med pris og forsyningssikkerhed?”
Straks blev der tavshed. Men så var der en ung mand, der sagde – nej han næsten råbte – ”Der er ikke sammenhæng i de mange fine forklaringer”.

Langsomt, meget langsomt, begyndte folk at synge – først meget stille.

Hvem har lavet Hvem har lavet alt det der?
Hvem har lavet Det skal vi betale
Hvem har lavet Har man råd til det?

Til sidst var der en lille pige – måske var hun ikke helt så lille – hun spurgte spagfærdigt om noget, der var meget uartigt.
Dette kan naturligvis ikke siges højt i det pæne selskab – det kan kun hviskes: A***kraft.

Men andre begyndte at sige at man da ikke kunne komme nu og sådan sige at vi har taget fejl i 40 år – ”Det er jo længe før jeg blev født.”
Det var dog svært at høre for nu var alt blevet et stort virvar, stole og borde blev lavet til pejsebrænde og computere skulle genstartes.

Men den kloge mand, han blev ved med at tale om bæredygtighed og læse højt af de mange tal, som han nok ikke engang selv forstod.
De gode tilhørere, de kunne ikke mere høre hvad der blev sagt, men skulle alligevel gerne vise hvor dygtige man var, så de fortsatte med at nikke og klappe.

Selv dette fine pejsebrænde kan bruges som træpiller – bæredygtigt genbrug, for det var begyndt at blive koldt.
